Sydney Schouten is a graduate from the University of Utah, with a Bachelors in Film and Media Production with an emphasis in Animation, a minor in English (Creative Writing), and a minor in the university's renowned Entertainment Arts and Engineering (Games) program.Sydney specializes in video editing and frame-by-frame 2D animation, with experience in Python and MEL scripting, Maya (modeling, UV texturing, and rigging), Motion Builder, Unreal Engine, and Unity, alongside Adobe Photoshop, Animate, Premiere, After Effects, and numerous equivalent alternatives. Influencer's Influence was a student group project completed in seven weeks for the Capstone Animation course at the University of Utah. The team consisted of four members and is a commentary on the lengths content creators sometimes go to for the sake of video content.

Patsy's Birthday was the second student group project completed in seven weeks for the Capstone Animation course at the University of Utah. The team consisted of five members and tells the story of a homeless man, Hugo, who wants to throw a birthday party for his aging canine friend.

After is a storyboard animatic created at Salt Lake Community College in the Spring of 2019. It was a solo project, completed solely by Sydney. Despite a drastic increase in artistic skill since this project, it has been included in this portfolio for its consistent pacing and lack-of-dialogue narrative.

This video is a collection of 3D animation assignments from the 3D Computer Animation course at the University of Utah. The course heavily focused on using and seamlessly combining pre-existing and motion captured animation, but also provided opportunities to learn key poses and graph editing.

Soulbound was a collaborative project for the University of Utah's Traditional Game Design course in the Spring semester of 2023. Sydney Schouten and eight colleagues created a short fantasy adventure with power up elements as a core gameplay mechanic, with a concrete storyline and end goal.

Server (Also known as "Server") was a collaborative project for the University of Utah's Alternative Game Design course. Over the course of the Fall 2022 semester, Sydney Schouten, as well as eight other individuals, created a short video game with the intent to express a message regarding a real world issue, rather than merely provide a gameplay-centric story and experience.

Thus, Always

Thus, Always is a visual novel with turn-based combat elements created in April of 2024 for the Utah-run "Thoughtful Jam" competition hosted by Serious Gamers. A collaborative effort of a team of two, Thus, Always was completed in three weeks, with a rough script completed in approximately three days. The secondary theme of the jam, "Set up," drove the narrative in a direction regarding the burden of legacy, and how what is owed or promised to burgeoning generations is oftentimes tainted or flawed.Thus, Always won second place in the "Thought-provoking" category, and fourth place in the "Visual Presentation," "Audio Presentation," and "User Experience" categories among a total of fifteen submitted games.
